This room is for children aged 3-4 years. Children will usually move into this
room after their 3rd birthday, or when your child is ready. We aim to move
children into their new rooms in small friendship groups, if possible, in order
to provide comfort and some normality during the transition.
The adult to child ratio within Preschool is 1:8 and the staff follow the Early
Years Foundation Stage, Development Matters 2021.
We have a key worker system within Preschool, they will work with your
child’s previous key worker from the Under 3’s room to ensure a smooth
transition and make sure all relevant information regarding personal needs and
their stage of development is passed on in preparation for the transition.
For prospective children and their parents/carers joining us, heading straight into Preschool, you will be introduced to your Key worker during taster sessions, in order to provide yourself and child someone familiar to offer you both support during the settling in process.
Our main aim within Preschool is to encourage and promote independence in preparation for Primary School. We encourage independence through a variety of ways, including
-
Self-dressing (including zips and shoes)
-
Using a knife and fork
-
Self serve at mealtimes
-
Pouring their own drinks
-
Taking responsibility of their own belongings.
-
Being toilet trained
Preschool is situated on our top floor, across 6 rooms. It is designed and specially set up to ensure all 7 areas of learning are covered, encouraging children’s investigation and learning to take place simultaneously. These areas include

Children have access to a designated meal room, toilets, Heuristic room, Book room, Imaginative room and Messy room, as well as the shared outdoor area. Parents have access to their children’s learning and development via an online learning journey, called Capture Education.
We also offer children two additional activities within Preschool from outside agencies, a dance/drama session and Phonics, this session introduces children to letters and sounds.
The staff working within Preschool aim to teach children in fun educational ways, ensuring to follow children’s interests. Positive behaviour is strongly promoted within Preschool; they have a reward system in place as well as specifically planned activities to promote the settings ‘Golden Rules’
